Kaliopi to represent FYR Macedonia in 2012

20 November 2011 at 11:24 CET

Kaliopi Bukle was internally chosen by broadcaster MKRTV. She is one of the most popular singers in the Balkans, having released no fewer than nine solo albums, which have enjoyed success across the region and beyond the borders of FYR Macedonia.

Kaliopi has also performed in excess of 100 concerts in her homeland, and has been involved with theatre, film and also contemporary ballet.

Kaliopi honoured with the invite

In response to the invitation to represent her country in Baku, Kaliopi replied "Thank you very much the invitation, of course I accept, I am honoured, the responsibility is huge"

A national final will be held to select the song that Kaliopi will perform in Baku. Further details will be released by MKRTV in the coming months regarding this.

Heartbreak for Kaliopi in 1996 attempt

It is not the first time that Kaliopi has attempted to represent FYR Macedonia in Europe's Favourite TV Show, she did win through in 1996 with the song Samo Ti. The problem in 1996 was that 30 countries had entered the Eurovision Song Contest, but there were only 23 places available. One of them of course went to hosts Norway.

Kaliopi therefore, along with the other 29 entries had to fight out for one of the remaining 22 places available in the final. Unfortunately, FYR Macedonia and Kaliopi were amongst the seven countries which did not make the final list.
