It's Conan Osíris for Portugal in 2019!

It was a spectacular show from Portimão tonight, where Portugal held the final show of their 'Festival da Canção', and it proved to be a lucky location for Conan Osíris who was declared the winner and thus will represent Portugal at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.

Last year's home nation of the Eurovision Song Contest, Portugal, just chose their entry for Tel Aviv. This was the 51st edition of the Portuguese national selection, Festival da Canção, which came to an end tonight with an amazing show at the Portimão Arena, hosted by Eurovision 2018 co-presenter Filomena Cautela and Vasco Palmeirim. 

After the voting sequence took place the song that got the maximum number of points was Telemóveis (Mobile phones) performed by Conan Osíris who will represent Portugal at the first Semi-Final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday the 14th of May in Tel Aviv.

About Conan Osíris

Conan Osíris is the stage name of Tiago Miranda. His official biography says that he was born on the same day as animation director Hayao Miyazaki (5th of January). He released his debut album, Música Normal in 2016 and in 2018 Conan released a second album which he called Adoro bolos (I Love Cakes) and made his television debut participating in an RTP program (5 after midnight). Conan Osíris is the author, composer as well as producer of his songs. He was born in Lisbon and is self-taught in music. He studied art and design and, above all, he studied life and people. Oh! ...and he worked in the oldest sex shop in Portugal!

After two semi-finals, the following eight songs made it through to tonight's final (winner in bold):

For the competition, the decision was taken by a combination of votes from seven regional juries (the first figure) and televoting from the viewers (the second figure). It was a landslide victory, as the winner in both sets of voting was Conan Osíris with Telemóveis.

Portugal in Eurovision

Portugal joined the Eurovision family in 1964 and held the record for the most appearances in the Eurovision Song Contest without a win until 2017 when Salvador Sobral lifted the trophy in Kyiv. Last year they hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in their capital city, Lisbon, where they were represented by Claudia Pascoal with Isaura and the song O Jardim:
