It's Marco Mengoni for Italy!

Who is Marco Mengoni

Marco Mengoni (24) was born on Christmas Day in 1988 in Ronciglione (Viterbo, Italy). Although he started singing at age 16 his breakthrough in the Italian music scene was in 2009, after he won the third season of The X Factor Italy. One year after he took part in Sanremo where he placed third with the song Credimi Ancora.

Marco Mengoni has released two EPs and two albums which have all become gold or platinum. Marco is also the only Italian artist to have won the Best European Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2010 in Madrid.

Sanremo 2013

Marco Mengoni has been selected from the "Campioni" (established artists) participating in this year's Sanremo Festival. This was the line-up of tonight's final:

  • Raphael Gualazzi - Sai (Ci Basta Un Sogno) 5th
  • Almamegretta - Mamma, Non Lo Sa 14th
  • Daniele Silvestri - A Bocca Chiusa 6th
  • Moda - Se Si Potesse Non Morire (Top 3)
  • Simone Cristicchi - La Prima Volta (Che Sono Morto) 11th
  • Maria Nazionale - E’ Colpa Mia 10th
  • Annalisa - Scintille! 9th
  • Max Gazze - Sotto Casa 7th
  • Chiara Galiazzo - Il Futuro Che Sarà 8th
  • Marta sui Tubi - Vorrei 12th
  • Malika Ayane - E Se Poi 4th
  • Elio e le Storie Tese - La Canzone Mononota (Top 3)
  • Marco Mengoni - L’Essenziale (Top 3)
  • Simona Molinari and Peter Cincotti - La Felicità 13th

There was also the newcomers competition on Friday which was won by Antonio Maggio with the song Mi Servirebbe Sapere. Elio e le Storie Tese won the Mia Martini Critics award as well as the award for Best Arrangement. After that the Top 3 was revealed:

  • Elio e le Storie Tese - La Canzone Mononota 2nd (32,63%)
  • Moda - Se Si Potesse Non Morire 3rd (31,12%)
  • Marco Mengoni - L’Essenziale 1st (36,25%)

The winner of Sanremo 2013 was also Marco Mengoni with the song L'Essenziale as voted by an expert jury and the televote. Before the final results, Marco was announced as the Italian act for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. The song he will perform in Malmö will be confirmed at a later date by RAI and also here on Eurovision.tv
