In the spotlight: Hurricane Miomir Milić
With their song, 'Hasta La Vista', Hurricane was chosen to represent Serbia in 2020. In light of the unfortunate cancellation of the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, we wish to highlight the impressive acts that were set to appear. This is 'In the spotlight', our feature honouring the artists that would have made up this year's edition of the world's largest live music event.

Hurricane was planned to fly the Serbian flag at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 after winning Beovizija 2020 in Belgrade in March. The all-girl band planned to sing the song Hasta La Vista in Rotterdam.

Who is Hurricane?

Hurricane was formed in 2017 on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. Band members include Sanja Vučić, Ivana Nikolić and Ksenija Knežević. Over the past 2 years, the group has garnered international attention with songs that have been broadcasted by more than 100 radio stations around the world.

The trio has released 7 songs in English, and in 2019, they released their first single in the Serbian language titled Favorito. The song was very successful in the Serbian music scene, confirmed by the 30 million views on their official YouTube channel. Hurricane is currently in Los Angeles, working on 2 songs for the US market and an album for the Serbian market which is expected to be released in 2020.

Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest

Serbia entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Previously Serbia had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest as part of Yugoslavia as well as Serbia and Montenegro. The country won with its debut entry in 2007 and hosted the competition in the capital Belgrade the following year.

Serbia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest as part of Yugoslavia from 1961-1992 and then entered the contest as Serbia and Montenegro between 2004 and 2006. When Serbia won the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, it became only the second country to win the competition with a debut entry since Switzerland's victory at the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.

In Tel Aviv in 2019, Serbia was represented by Nevena Božović and her song Kruna. This was not her first Eurovision Song Contest: Nevena took third place at the 2007 Junior Eurovision Song Contest and was part of Moje 3, the band that represented Serbia at Eurovision 2013. In 2019, she finished 7th in the Grand Final.
