Icelandic selection contestant Sigurjón Brink (36) died

According to reports, Brink died last night at home in Garðabæ, most probably because of heart problems. He was no stranger to the Icelandic selections for the Eurovision Song Contest, as he took part in the 2005 and 2010 on the national stage. Brink was scheduled to perform during the Icelandic semi-final on the 29th of January.

Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has not yet decided to which extent this will have consequences for the national selection, Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins.

The Eurovision Song Contest team of the European Broadcasting Union offers its deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sigurjón Brink.
