There were long queues at the headquarters of Icelandic broadcaster RÚV on Monday, as entrants stood in line in order to hand in their entries for the Icelandic national selection before the midnight deadline.

A total of 240 entries have been submitted, and a special committee will now begin work on listening to all of the entries and selecting the ones that they deem to be the best to progress to the three heats in January and February 2013.

It is expected, although not yet confirmed that the three heats will each contain five songs as in the past years, and a total of seven songs would progress to the Final.

The Final of  Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins will take place on February 9th.
