Since 2012, Hungary traditionally picks their participant for the Eurovision Song Contest via the national selection show 'A Dal'. Today, broadcaster MTVA announced the 30 acts that want to represent the country in Tel Aviv in May 2019.

Two artists have won the competition before; András Kállay-Saunders took part in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen where he came 5th in the Grand Final. Saunders returns to A Dal for 2019 as one half of The Middletonz. Also returning is 2017 Eurovision Song Contest participant Joci Pápai, who came 8th in Kyiv in the Grand Final.

A Dal 2019 will kick off on 19 January 2019. After three selection rounds, two semi-finals will be held and in the final on 23 February 2019, Hungary’s participating artist and song for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel will be announced.

The show will feature a jury consisting of 4 jurors: Miklós Both (award-winning composer and guitar player), Misi Mező (singer of the popular Hungarian band Magna Cum Laude), Lilla Vincze (music pedagogue, vocal coach and singer of Napoleon Boulevard) and Feró Nagy (singer of Beatrice and Bikini). As a so-called fifth jury member, the Hungarian audience will be involved; they will be able to cast their vote via text message.

A Dal 2019 will be hosted by Gábor Alfréd Fehérvári (A Dal 2016 winner and participant for Hungary in the the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest as Freddie) and Bogi Dallos (a performer in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 editions of A Dal).
