How big was Sam Ryder's impact on the United Kingdom's recent record?
05 July 2022 at 12:05 CESTOver half of the 40 juries gave the United Kingdom one of their top-three sets of points of either 12, 10 or 8.
With SPACE MAN, Sam Ryder scored the third-highest jury vote score in Eurovision history, with 283 points.
In the jury vote, the United Kingdom only failed to score points from four countries: Armenia, Australia, Croatia and Greece.
If you added up all of the points received by the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest from 2010 to 2021, it would still be below Sam Ryder’s points tally of 466 in 2022.
Sam Ryder brought some Eurovision pride to his nation: the United Kingdom delivered the largest TV audience of all markets in 2022 with 8.9 million viewers watching the Grand Final, up 20% on 2021.
Cheering on SPACE MAN gave the UK its highest viewing figures for the Eurovision Song Contest since 2011. The Grand Final was the most-watched televised programme in the UK of 2022, before being surpassed by Platinum Party at the Palace, at which Sam Ryder also performed SPACE MAN.
SPACE MAN has so far peaked at Number 2 on the UK singles chart, becoming the highest-charting Eurovision song on the official UK chart since Gina G’s Ooh Aah… Just a Little Bit in 1996, which went to Number 1.
Sam Ryder’s second-place finish in Turin marked the 16th time that the United Kingdom has finished runner-up at the Contest.
