21 October 2016 at 13:00 CEST
Cyprus was the first country to announce its act for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest! Hovig will take to the stage in Kyiv with Gravity. The song was written by esteemed Swedish composer Thomas G:son. Hovig, who is a Cypriot performer of Armenian origin, was selected internally by Cypriot broadcaster, CyBC, to represent the country in 2017.

Hovig is 27 years old and participated in X Factor Greece in 2009, the same year that Evi Adamou, Cyprus' representative in Eurovision 2012, took part. He participated in the Cypriot national selection in both 2010 and 2015. The video for Hovig's song was directed by Emilios Avraam and the artistic director for Gravity is Charis Savva.

Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest

Cyprus made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 and reaching an impressive 6th place, only to be bettered the next year when Anna Vissi, who represented Greece in 1980, took the country to its first ever top five placing. Last year Minus One represented Cyprus in Stockholm with the song Alter Ego, which qualified for the final, and was also written by Thomas G:son. Cyprus has yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest, could Hovig do it in 2017?
