14 February 2009 at 22:32 CET

Melodifestivalen had moved from the west coast of Sweden high up to the north this week. The little town of Skellefteå had the honour of hosting the second Semi-Final of the immensely successful Swedish selection this week. Many experts had praised the high standard of the songs this week, but only two spots for the final were available for the eight contestants (qualifiers in bold):

  • Lili & Susie - Show Me Heaven
  • Lasse Lindh & Bandet - Jag Ska Slåss I Dina Kvarter!
  • Jennifer Brown - Never Been Here Before
  • H.E.A.T - 1000 Miles
  • Markoolio - Kärlekssång Från Mig
  • Amy Diamond - It's My Life
  • Cookies n Beans - What If
  • Måns Zelmerlöw - Hope & Glory

This week saw a mix of Melodifestival veterans and newcomers. Måns Zelmerlöw and Amy Diamond took part in the 2007 respectively 2008 edition of the Swedish selection, both reaching the final. Lili & Susie took part in the 1989 Melodifestivalen which was the first Swedish final ever to be held in Stockholm's gigantic Globen Arena. The Finnish-rooted sisters reached the 5th place way back then.

H.E.A.T and Måns Zelmerlöw were the incredibly happy winners of the two direct tickets for the Swedish final tonight, but also Amy Diamond and Lili & Susie will have another chance to qualify in the so called Second Chance Round which will take place on March 7th. Amy Diamond was also the favourite of the international jury tonight after Caroline af Ugglas was their favourite last week. The international jury will pick two more songs in the next two Semi-Finals and will ultimately decide about the 11th song for the final in Stockholm.
