Germany's No Angels on the way to heaven?

17 May 2008 at 20:32 CEST

Sandy, Nadja, Lucy and Jessica - better known as No Angels - had their very first rehearsal on this hot Saturday in Belgrade and the ladies take their task very seriously as they seemed to wear their final stage clothes already! Two of the girls are in bright blue while the other too are in purple. They have added a choreography to their modern midtempo song Disappear. They spent some time adjusting the audio settings for their voices for themselves and their two female backing singers. The LED projections in the back of the stage showed flying feathers on a blue ground and there's probably a new record number of windmachines going to be used for the stage act! Just like in the UK song before, the Germans have opted for lots of pyrotechnics which were tested in their last try today.

No Angels took off in 2001 when the band won the first ever Popstars contest in Germany. Their debut single Daylight In Your Eyes and their album Elle'ments went straight to #1 of the official German charts - and since then they really kicked off with sold-out tours, countless music and media awards and gold as well as platinum awards. The albums Now... Us and Pure (both reaching No.1 in the charts) as well as the swing album When The Angels Swing silenced all critics because, by that time, the No Angels had long shaken off  the clichés and prejudices usually associated with being a manufactured band. Following a three-year break, No Angels came back in 2007 with their album Destiny and have conquered the charts and the hearts of fans with their single Goodbye To Yesterday. This caused a perfect sensation: both single and album went straight to number 4 of the charts - a perfect comeback for the ladies! In March 2008, they won the Deutsche Vorentscheid - the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest - with their song Disappear which reached No. 4 in the German charts some weeks ago.

During the No Angels press conference, the girls revealed that they will release a Best of album all around Europe after releasing a similar CD two years ago in Germany. One of the girls confessed that the Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest thing that has ever happened to the group. They were very happy about the way their rehearsal went and that there were just some minor problems to be solved. The No Angels are planning to attend as many parties as they can during the next week. One of their favourite songs in this year's contest is Azerbaijan and they will definitely attend both semi-finals in the hall. At the end of today's press conference the journalists were treated with a Serbian version of their song in this year's contest.
