Fredericia withdraws Eurovision 2014 application

26 June 2013 at 20:00 CEST

The application submitted by the so-called "Trekantområdet Danmark" region to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest at the the Messe C Arena in Fredericia has been withdrawn after organisers were unable to fulfill a requirement as set out by host broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR):

"We suddenly received word from DR that the event requires a hall without columns, a requirement that cannot be fulfilled at MesseC. As such the mayoral group held a meeting and decided that we would of course withdraw our application", Jørn Pedersen, chair of Trekantområdet Danmark, explained to a local newspaper.

That leaves three cities in the running to host next year's contest; Copenhagen, Herning and Horsens. You can read all about the venues by visiting our article.

The 2014 edition of Europe's favourite TV show is currently set to take place on the 13th, 15th and 17th of May.
