First entry for Melodifestivalen 2012 chosen

A TV-show that ranks among the top watched programmes, a compilation album that is the biggest selling album of the year, a winning song that is number one in the charts for 5 weeks... These are only some of the amazing achievements of Sweden's Melodifestivalen. It's no wonder that hundreds of artists and thousands of songs are willing to compete every year.

That's why a couple of years ago Swedish Television, SVT, decided to held an extra online contest to grab one of the 32 spots in the competition under the name Web Joker.

Today the final of this contest took place on SVT's radio show P4 Extra. After an SMS-only voting, the song in Swedish I Mina Drömmar (In My Dreams) was declared the winner. The singer is former backing singer Maria Ben Hajji and the song is written by amateur authors Thomas Cars and Nana Sveinsdóttir (below, surrounding the singer Maria).

The complete ranking of Web Joker 2012 is as follows:

  1. I Mina Drömmar
  2. Need To Know
  3. Beautiful Love
  4. Marilyn Monroe
  5. All Day All Night
  6. A Heartbeat Away
  7. Ingenting, Ingen
  8. Forever By Your Side

You can listen to the winner and the rest of the Web Joker finalists on SVT's Melodifestivalen site.

In 2012 Sweden will try to match and improve Eric Saade's brilliant 3rd place with Popular at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
