Earlier this year the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest won a Rose D'Or Award as well as a Crystal Award and today it features in the shortlist for the 2017 TPi Awards! The TPi Awards event was first held in 2002 and has consistently grown in size and status, and is now regarded throughout the world as the premier networking event for the live production industry.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is nominated in the category of Live Production of The Year. The spectacular live shows in Stockholm were produced by Swedish broadcaster SVT and are nominated alongside the following:

  • AC/DC – Rock or Bust World Tour
  • Adele – Live
  • Beyonce – Formation World Tour
  • Coldplay – A Head Full of Dreams World Tour
  • Muse – The Drones World Tour 2016

Ola Melzig was the Production Manager for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest and he too is nominated for an APi Award in the category of Production Manager of the Year. When the shortlist was announced Ola said, "Eurovision in Stockholm was in many ways a dream come true for me. It completed an amazing adventure including 12 Eurovision Song Contest productions and four Eurovision Junior productions since my start at the Globe Arena with Eurovision 2000". Check out our video below which features an interview with Ola in Stockholm during the event week of the Eurovision Song Contest.

"We got the team together very early, and had the time to do and re-do a lot of things before we made any final decisions. I think you can see the result of our efforts very clearly in the 3 broadcasts", said Ola. "We produced seven hours of television at the absolute highest quality level, with a great concept that worked very well, there was not a dull moment. Every frame of those seven hours was full of action and looked amazing. I’m actually not sure if it’s possible to do better television than this. I’ve never seen it anyway!"

"I’m just so thankful to have been a part of this amazing team and production, and I am extremely thrilled about the nominations", added Ola.

The winners will be decided by the industry and will be revealed on 27th February. For more details visit the website.
