ERR, the Estonian national broadcaster, decided to go big this year with their national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Eesti Laul.
For that, they introduced two semi-finals as well as a grand final. The first one was held tonight, giving the tiny country their first ever semi-final winners.
"There are many good songs, great vocalists and stage shows in the first semi-final," - Piret Järvis said. "I think that nothing is clear before the results are announced."
The show was hosted by two out of three members of the band Vanilla Ninja - Piret Järvis and Lenna Kuurmaa. And yes, it's the band which represented Switzerland at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Cool Vibes and finished 8th then.
The artists which who took the new, 360-degrees stage tonight, fighting for the chance to represent Estonia at Europe's favourite TV-show were as follows (in the order of performing, qualifiers in bold):
  1. Marilyn Jurman - Veel On Aega
  2. ELMAYONESA - Kes Ei Tantsi, On Politsei
  3. Victoria - Baby Had You
  4. Noorkuu - Be My Saturday Night
  5. Jana Kask - Don't Want Anything
  6. Kait Tamra - Lubadus
  7. Ans. Andur - Lapsed Ja Lennukid
  8. Meister ja Mari - Unemati
  9. Getter Jaani - Rockefeller Street
  10. Outloudz - I Wanna Meet Bob Dylan
Before the results were announced, a sketch mocking online tabloid journalism was shown where the 'reporter' was trying to find 'scandals' backstage - from intrigues to new couples and corruption behind the scenes.
The jury results were announced before the televotes and according to the professional jury the ones who should've qualified for the final were Outloudz, Victoria, Getter Jaani, Jana Kask and Ans. Andur.
The winners were picked by a joint 50:50 jury and televote, as has been the case for the past 2 years as well.

In the final, an additional super-final will be used where the two acts which had collected the most points, will perform again and only a televote will be used to pick the best out of the two.
The second semi-final will be held next Saturday, 19th of February, from ERR's studios.
The lucky ones will now go on to participate in the final, to be held on the 26th of February, once again as a live concert in the Nokia Concert Hall.
