Many names were mentioned by the Spanish media in the past days evidencing the interest in the competition and showing that, ultimately, it wasn't really clear who would represent Spain at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
During TVE's evening magazine + Gente the presenter Anne Igartiburu, known for her involvement in the Eurovision related shows in Spain in the last years, introduced on the studio the popular band ESDM - El Sueño De Morfeo as the Spanish performers in Malmö on the 18th of May.
El Sueño De Morfeo is a Spanish pop-rock band with celtic influences composed by Raquel del Rosario from the Canary Islands, Juan Suarez and David Feito, both from Asturias. They've been working together for ten years and since 2005 they are known as El Sueño De Morfeo for their solid pop songs with rock touches and folk flavors supported by the striking voice of Raquel.
Raquel participated last year at the festival of San Remo in a duet with the Italian 1988 Eurovision Song Contest artist Luca Barbarossa and the band has collaborated with leading artists and producers from Spain and abroad.
Fresh, young and recognizable the band delivers powerful live performances that have been witnessed by more than two million people. Their big success in Spain has also mirrored in some parts of Latin America. Between 2005 and 2012 have sold around half a million copies of their four studio albums.
The name of the band
When thinking of a name for the group, Raquel was reading a book on the interpretation of dreams and the character "Morpheus" always caught her attention. Morpheus, god of dreams, was in charge of guarding the palace where dreams were made and was also responsible for bringing the dreams to humans.
He was the only one who couldn't sleep so Morpheus dream was somewhat paradoxically impossible. For the band to be able to live from music was an impossible dream that came true so they decided to name themselves El Sueño De Morfeo (Morpheus Dream).
For the Eurovision Song Contest they will use the initials ESDM always before the Spanish name of the group to make an easier international communication becoming ESDM - El Sueño De Morfeo.
