Ireland has chosen its Eurovision hopeful for May!

On Friday 7 February, we got to watch as the Emerald Isle selected the song that will represent them at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. The Irish have spoken - and it's EMMY that will fly the green, white and orange flag in Switzerland, with her song Laika Party

Speaking just after the show, EMMY said:

"I'm speechless... thank you so, SO much! Wow - we're so excited. I hope I will make you proud Ireland."

Ireland's Eurovision pre-selection was our appointment viewing for Friday night as it once again took over the country's biggest primetime TV show. The Late Late Show became The Late Late Eurosong Special 2025, with host Patrick Kielty taking the reins of the national final for a second year.

6 songs competed for the honour of becoming Ireland's Eurovision Song Contest entry in 2025, with the winner being Laika Party performed by EMMY. Laika Party scored a total of 34 points, giving it an 8-point lead over the song in second place.

Voting on the night came from a public vote, a national jury vote and an international jury vote, with each one accounting for one third of the final result.

Laika Song won both the public vote and the national jury vote. It placed second in the international jury vote, behind Samantha Mumba's My Way. Samantha finished in second place overall, with Bobbi Arlo taking the bronze position with her song Powerplay.

Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest

Ireland first entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 and has set a number of records along the way.

Famously, Johnny Logan became the first person to win the competition twice, finding success with What’s Another Year? (1980) and Hold Me Now (1987), before the ‘Emerald Isle’ celebrated an astonishing 4 victories over the space of 5 years thanks to Linda Martin (Why Me? 1992), Niamh Kavanagh (In Your Eyes 1993), Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan (Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids 1994), and Eimear Quinn (The Voice 1996).

Since the first Irish triumph in 1970 courtesy of Dana and All Kinds of Everything, the country has totalled 7 victories - a record number of wins unmatched for 27 years until Sweden finally equalled their tally in 2023.

Dublin has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest on 6 occasions (more than any other city), taking place at Point Theatre three of those times.
