Emmelie de Forest to give it her all in Malmö

28 March 2013 at 16:20 CET

She may not have much experience but Emmelie de Forest certainly knows how to work it in front of a live and TV audience. She proved this in January when she won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2013, becoming Denmark's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Malmö, Sweden in May.

We spoke to her on her way from her dressing room to the aftershow party at the Boxen Arena in Herning, where she had just beaten all her opponents to victory with the uptempo number Only Teardrops. Although not the outright favourite on the night, the song has since climbed up the list of bookmakers' favourites and many are calling it "the one to beat".

Even before the rest of Europe jumped onto the "Emmelie bandwagon", this young girl from Jutland was already quietly confident of her song and told us that she is sure it will reach the Top 5 in Malmö on the 18th of May if, of course, she qualifies from the first Semi-Final on the 14th of that month.

In addition to having what she and many others believe is a very strong song, Emmelie also has a very special connection to the host country Sweden, where her father originates and much of her family still lives. Could this give her an edge? Will she be able to ride on the wave of a pseudo-home audience? Lest we forget that the Danish capital Copenhagen is situated just 35km away on the other side of the Øresund Bridge, so there will likely be a big Danish presence in the arena on the night of her Semi-Final.

Emmelie checks out the Malmö Arena

Recently one of the Semi-Finals of Melodifestivalen 2013 (the Swedish national selection) paid a visit to the Malmö Arena where incidentally, the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest will also be held. This was the perfect opportunity for Emmelie to pop over from Copenhagen and check it out in order to get a feeling for what it will be like to perform there in May. Of course this time she was only in the audience! Check out the video below, where Emmelie speaks to Danish broadcaster DR about her experience from that evening:

Denmark will perform in position 5 at the first Semi-Final of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest on the 14th of May at the Malmö Arena in Malmö, Sweden.
