Eesti Laul 2016 gets underway in Tallinn!

Tonight the first Semi-Final of Eesti Laul 2016 took place in Tallinn, Estonia. 10 acts competed for 5 spots in the final to be held on Saturday 5th March. The line-up included Laura, who represented Estonia in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest as part of the group Suntribe and Mick Pedaja, who provided backing vocals in 2010.

Since Eesti Laul was launched in 2009, Estonia has sent a diverse range of musical styles and acts to the Eurovision Song Contest. Whilst the main aim of the show is to select an entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, it remains a popular showcase in its own right for Estonian artists. This year a record 238 songs were submitted to the competition.

Tonight ten acts fought for a place in the final of Eesti Laul 2016. The result was decided by a 50/50 combination of votes from the professional jury and the public televote.
