Back in January France held a national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Destination Eurovision. The format included two semi-finals and a final. The winner, Madame Monsieur, was decided by both an international jury and the public. Read more.
Madame Monsieur is a group comprised of Jean-Karl and Emilie Satt. Their shared musical and personal journey began in a bar ten years ago. The day after that first glance, the first words and first notes were already flowing between them. They rest, as they say, is history. We caught up with the duo following their victory at Destination Eurovision:
Madame Monsieur find light in the sometimes cruel reality of daily life and transform it into something beautiful and strong. Their entry for Eurovision 2018, Mercy, was inspired by a real-life situation. In March 2017, a tweet by a journalist aboard the humanitarian boat Aquarius with the photo of a little girl, Mercy, born in the middle of the sea caught the attention of the global media. Rescued amid chaos, the miracle that is Mercy inspired Madame Monsieur's Eurovision entry. The video of the song reflected this too:
According to their biography, their debut album, Vu d’ici (Seen From Here in English), reflects an almost urgent longing that the group has to relate to the world around them. Watch the official video clip below:
France's Madame Monsieur will perform Mercy in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest on 12th May 2018.
