Mikolas Josef represents Czech Republic at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest

In the third part of 'Destination Lisbon', our feature counting down to the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, we get to know Mikolas Josef who will represent Czech Republic with the song 'Lie To Me'.
At the end of January, Mikolas Josef won the Czech selection for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Lie To Me'. More than four hundred songs by various producers, performers and bands from all over the world were submitted for the national selection. Read more..
Prior to the announcement, Czech TV played a trick on Mikolas, announcing that he had finished second in the national selection:
Mikolas Josef is a composer, producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and director of music videos. He grew up in Prague and Znojmo, but now lives mainly in Vienna. Mikolas comes from a family of musicians and has been playing the guitar since he was five.
He graduated from The English College in Prague and although his study grades were good enough for him to go to prestigious UK colleges, he opted not to keep studying, but to get on with his musical career. Aged 17, Mikolas won the highest meritorious award from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, the Gold Medal, with distinction for solo acting. He has not yet taken up a career in acting though.
Just before embarking on his musical career, Mikolas spent a year working as an international model for major global fashion brands. He cut his promising modelling career short, rejecting opportunities within the industry. Instead, he toured European cities including Oslo, Zurich, Hamburg, Vienna and Prague, where he made a living as a street musician. After a year of travelling he invested his savings in his creative work, which in 2015 resulted in his first single and video-clip Hands Bloody.
Mikolas became better known to Czech fans after his second single Free, which ranked the fourth most played local song in the Czech Republic.
Mikolas is very excited to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest and he travelled to Lisbon already to shoot his postcard video, of which we will see the result during the first Semi-Final on the 8th of May:
In Lisbon, Mikolas will be joined on stage by professional dancers and brothers Kristián and Marek Mensa.
Kristián is a student and self-taught artist, dancer, musician, actor and traveller. During his exchange year in Colorado, USA, he got highly motived to start creating and expressing his thoughts through visual art and dancing. Marek is a passionate hip-hop dancer. He came second at the Red Bull BC One Czech & Slovak Cypher, a big highlight in his dancing career.
