In the tenth part of 'Destination Lisbon', our feature counting down to the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, we get to know MELOVIN who will represent Ukraine with the song 'Under The Ladder'.
MELOVIN started in Odesa in 2012. The name is derived from a combination of the holiday Halloween and the last name of the British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who is famous for wearing a novelty contact lens in one of his eyes.
MELOVIN made a number of attempts to make it to popular talent shows such as Ukraine’s Got Talent and The X Factor. In 2015, the artist finally succeeded to become a participant of the sixth season of The X Factor in Ukraine and eventually went on to win when he was only 18 years old.
MELOVIN took part in the Ukrainian national selection twice before. In 2017 he finished third and this year finally took the gold. He not only performed his own song, but also directed the performance.
MELOVIN's biggest passions, besides music, are perfumery and chemistry — processes that, to him, resemble that of making music.
MELOVIN realises that there are no victories without failures. His creative journey has been just like that; pursuing his dream step by step with no fear of failure. And this is what his song Under The Ladder is about. The young artist encourages people never to give up because of failures, as they are temporary, and to fight for your dreams, even if it's against all odds.
