Destination Lisbon (#19): Meet Franka from Croatia

In the nineteenth part of 'Destination Lisbon', our feature counting down to the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, we get to know Franka who will represent Croatia with the song 'Crazy'.

In February, the Croatian national broadcaster HRT announced that singer and songwriter Franka Batelić, better known as Franka, will fly to Lisbon in May to will represent Croatia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Crazy.

Franka was born on June 7, 1992 in Rijeka, Croatia. She started singing when she was just three years old as soloist in the Minicantanti Choir and later as a member of the Saint Andrija church choir. She performed as choir soloist at numerous festivals both in Croatia and abroad. 

Besides singing, Franka has a big passion for travelling and foreign languages. She studied music performance and song writing at Berklee College of Music in Boston and plays the guitar and the piano. She is currently studying Law at the University of Zagreb.

Franka recently travelled to Portugal to record her postcard for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest: 

Franka rose to fame in her country when she won Showtime in 2007, a TV show similar to Pop Idol. She also competed in the Croatian national selection for Eurovision, Dora, in 2009 and 2010, but without success. In December 2009 Franka won Ples Sa Zvijezdama, the Croatian version of Dancing with the Stars. 

In 2011, Franka was featured on the songs On Fire And Run, where she enjoyed success outside of Croatia. After a break from music she came back at the end of 2017 as writer of the lyrics of Crazy, which she will perform herself at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.
