Destination Lisbon (#14): Meet Benjamin Ingrosso from Sweden
30 March 2018 at 08:00 CESTIn mid-March, Benjamin Ingrosso won Melodifestivalen 2018, the Swedish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song Dance You Off. He was chosen through a combination of public votes and votes from an international jury. Right after the final in Stockholm we caught up with Benjamin for a first comment:
Who is Benjamin Ingrosso?
Be it behind the keys, behind the scenes or on every TV screen nationwide, Sweden’s Benjamin Ingrosso has turned many heads with his contemporary twist of polished pop tones and soulful performance bravado.
Turning his early proficiency in song writing towards a focus on original music back in 2015, the past three years have seen the 20-year-old artist garner national admiration, critical acclaim and millions of streams alike. The years ahead point to a well-oiled peak in his musical output and some much deserved international acknowledgement for his widespread talents.
Born in Sweden on the outskirts of Stockholm and raised with a strong tie to his Italian heritage, it didn’t take long for Benjamin to find his feet within the world of entertainment. The self-trained pianist and guitarist spent his early childhood crafting his ear and eye for songmanship. It served him well, for by the age of nine he had already penned his first gold certified hit.
Right now, Benjamin is one of Sweden’s most popular male pop-artists. With over 25 million Spotify streams and reaching Platinum (once) and Gold (three times) with his singles, Last year, he scored several hits such as Good Lovin', Do You Think About Me and One More Time.
Earlier in March, Benjamin and Norway's participant Alexander Rybak visited Skavlan, a popular Norwegian-Swedish talk show, where they performed an acoustic mashup of both their songs:
