In the eleventh part of 'Destination Lisbon', our feature counting down to the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, we get to know SuRie who will represent the United Kingdom with the song 'Storm'.

Last February, SuRie won the United Kingdom's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest Eurovision: You Decide with the song Storm, thanks to support from both televoters at home as well as a professional jury.

In preparation for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, SuRie already met up with Finland's Saara Aalto for a traditional British cup of tea and a chat.

SuRie, a combination of her first names Susanna and Marie, is a classically trained musician who graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London. In fact, SuRie was recently chosen as an Associate of the academy, an honour only awarded to former students who make a significant contribution to the music profession.

SuRie's performance career began at a young age. Her head buried in books, a creative young SuRie was often found writing short stories, poetry and lyrics, which swiftly turned into song writing. SuRie performed as a soloist to HRH Princes Charles at the Royal Albert Hall and has held residencies in jazz lounges throughout London. She also performed as backing vocalist for artists like Chris Martin and Will Young.

SuRie recently travelled to Portugal to record her postcard for the Eurovision Song Contest:

Her debut LP, Something Beginning With... is a culmination of a writing and recording process that took SuRie almost all around the world.

The road to Eurovision

SuRie is no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest. Her Eurovision journey already started in 2015 when she was a backing dancer and vocalist for Loïc Nottet, who finished fourth for Belgium with the song Rhythm Inside

She returned again with the Belgians in 2017, supporting Blanche and City Lights as musical director, reaching a respectable fourth position.

Her Eurovision path continued with several invitations to songwriting camps throughout Europe, ultimately being approached to participate in the BBC's Eurovision: You Decide.
