Destination Lisbon (#8): Meet Ieva Zasimauskaitė from Lithuania24 March 2018 at 08:00 CET
Eurovizijos dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka — quite a mouthful! — is the Lithuanian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. It currently holds the record for longest national selection for the contest. It started in the first week of January and featured as many as 50 acts that were narrowed down though weekly heats; two quarter-finals, one online wildcard round, two semi-finals and one final, featuring six acts.
At the end of the marathon, Ieva Zasimauskaitė was chosen to represent her country in Lisbon at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Read more about Lithuania's national selection here..
Ieva is only 24 years old but has already accomplished quite a lot as professional singer. She started her music education at the age of six and took lessons in piano and pop music until she was fifteen. Ieva is no stranger to the Eurovision Family of Events, as she already participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist when she was fourteen years old.
Ieva's star rose to national fame in 2012 when she came second at The Voice of Lithuania. In 2013 and 2016 she made unsuccessful bids to represent Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest.
2018 brought more luck — When We’re Old didn't only resonate with the Lithuanian public, but also has a lot of meaning to Ieva personally. Her message: Love can last forever, it is the most powerful thing in this universe and it can defeat all fears we may have.
