Destination Lisbon (#36): Meet Jessica Mauboy from Australia

In the 36th part of 'Destination Lisbon', our feature counting down to the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, we get to know Jessica Mauboy from who will represent Australia with the song 'We Got Love'.

Already in December of last year, Australian broadcaster SBS announced that Jessica Mauboy will represent the country at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Read more..   

Her song We Got Love, which was selected internally, was revealed on the 8th of March. It tells the story of how music can lift the human spirit.  

Jessica Mauboy was born in 1989 in Darwin, Australia. She is one of Australia's most successful  artists. Jessica's musical journey began in 2006, when she captured the heart of the nation as a 16-year-old on Australian Idol. Since then she has released five top-10 albums, fifteen top-20 singles and four platinum selling albums. She turned 24 nominations into two ARIA Music Awards. Her songs have been streamed globally over 160 million times and her videos have been seen over 40 million times.  

Jessica toured with Beyoncé, collaborated with Ricky Martin, Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg and Pitbull, performed for Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and made history being the first solo artist to represent Australia as a guest performer at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014

Jessica said it was a dream to be the interval act in Copenhagen, back in 2014: "I wasn’t competing but it did give me a taste of how brilliant Eurovision was. I love the Eurovision Song Contest, and I have since I was a little girl."

In 2018 Jessica returns to the Eurovision stage. She wanted to create something that embodied the true essence of Australia, and something that could be universally understood.

To get herself ready for Lisbon, Jessica performed her song We Got Love for the first time live during the London Eurovision Song Contest preparty, and continued her European promotion tour with performances at Israel Calling and Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam.
