Anja has dreamt about participating in Eurovision Song Contest since she was 12 years old. Now, almost 10 years later, the dream has come true.

Denmark’s Anja grew up in a Danish household with Danish parents in Australia. She has spent a lot of time in Denmark and her sister lives there. "I feel so much closer to Denmark now, it's been a dream of mine to represent them. I am lucky to be here," says Anja.

This is not the first time that Anja has tried to enter the Eurovision Song Contest. Last year she came second in the national selection in Denmark. "I know how it feels to miss out. It makes it even more special for me to be here today, because I know it doesn't come easy. You have to work for it."

International goals

Anja has known that she wanted to be a singer since she was very young and was inspired by Celine Dion. In 2014 she even won the Australian edition of The Voice. "I wanted to be a singer on an international stage, I'm living out that dream right now. You can't get a bigger stage than Eurovision.”

Anja performed her song Where I Am on the Eurovision stage for the first time. "The rehearsal went really well and it’s amazing to see everything in place. I could feel the music through me, so now I can’t wait to also have a audience because I think the song is all about audience involvement."

Anja posted a photo of her arrival to Ukraine on her Instagram account:

Support from Australia

During her free days before the next rehearsal Anja will visit Chernobyl but will also take some time out to see Kyiv as well as go shopping.

Anja is supported by her mum who is in Kyiv. Next week her dad and grandparents will also arrive after making the long journey from Australia. Even Anja's former babysitter will be in town to cheer her on.

Speaking of her experience as a whole, Anja reflected; "It’s really beautiful and it keeps getting better." Anja will rehearse again on Saturday, 6th of May. Denmark will participate in the second Semi-Final on Thursday, 11th of May.
