Dates announced for 2013 Contest

On stage for the conference was Jon Ola Sand, the Executive Supervisor, Sietse Bakker, the Event Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest and Annika Nyberg Frankenhaeuser the new Media Director of the EBU, and representing Ictimai TV the Host Broadcaster, Adil Kermu, Tahir Mamadov and Camran Agasi.

The conference started with remarks on the 2012 contest, the main points were;

  • Challenges of the brand new venue. Finished just a few weeks ago. 
  • Worked for spectators and the technical crew.
  • The Crystal Hall was not solely built for the contest and will be used for other events.
  • Televoting returned to 15 minutes Previously it didn't increase the total number of votes, and that most people still voted during the recap. It also meant  in the past few years, having increased work on the captions for each song.
  • Successful staging of First Semi-Final
  • There were some in ear problems for the Romanian entry, which regrettably can happen in a live show, but fortunately Romania made the final.
  • Voting was validated by Price Waterhouse Cooper.
  • Diverse result between jury and televoting
  • Eight songs agreed by both juries and televoters, but one was thanks to televoters and one made it thanks to the jury.
  • Albania did not broadcast live, due to news of a tragic bus crash in their country.
  • Significant buzz on social media about the contest.
  • Five out of ten trended topics on twitter were on Eurovision,
  • Half a million followers on Facebook
  • Programme Book is available as an e-book, so viewers can download it via and follow everything at home.
  • Archive project on full speed. Digitalised and restored to obtain the best copies of each year. First phase completed as we approach the 60th contest in 2015.
  • Secure future for the Eurovision Song Contest.
  • Possible that future contests may be on a smaller scale and there may be  possible changes to rehearsal schedules to economise on time and financial costs.. 
  • 60th anniversary is approaching in 2015 and looking at ways to celebrate it, and discussions are taking place with various broadcasters.
