On Saturday evening, Dafna Dekel introduced the latest edition of #EurovisionAgain: Malmö 1992. Eurovision.tv caught up with the Israeli singer to chat about her involvement with Eurovision in the 1990s and to find out where she is now.

‘I finished 6th at the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest and I have really great memories of the event – Malmö was great to us; a wonderful place to be! It was a celebration of music.’

Dafna’s song, Ze Rak Sport – an uptempo track with drummers and a dance routine – lit up the ballad-heavy year of 1992, securing one of 5 top ten finishes for Israel in the 1990s.

After the Contest, Dafna released an English version of the entry (Viva Sports) with slightly changed lyrics as a nod to the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona – where Israel won their first ever Olympic medals.

In 1999 Jerusalem was selected as the Host City for Eurovision after Dana International’s victory in Birmingham with Diva. Dafna co-hosted the show alongside Yigal Ravid and Sigal Shachmon.

‘I wouldn’t mind hosting the show again – but taking part as a singer? It was great, but I think I should leave the memory as sweet as it was then!’

Though not keen to enter the Eurovision Song Contest again, Dafna is still releasing music; her latest single, What Do You Say?, is now available to stream or watch on YouTube.
