Jingle Bell Pop: Christmas songs from your Eurovision faves
23 December 2024 at 12:10 CETSleigh bells ring... Are you listening?
We've gathered together some relatively recent additions to the Christmas music canon, performed by a constellation of Eurovision Song Contest stars.
Marcus & Martinus - Christmas To Me
With a familiar cry of "fa-la-la, la-la-la", Marcus & Martinus offer up what's set to be a future festive classic. Christmas To Me is the perfect anti-consumerism anthem for anyone who finds Santa Baby to be a little too gift-grabbing.
Duncan Laurence - Wishes Come True
"Baby I'm falling for you... Like snow on a Christmas night". 'Tis the season to be won over by meteorological analogies after all. Particularly when they come with a Christmas chorus as knock-out as this:
Helena Paparizou - It's Christmas
"I've put my hopes in you... Please Santa, make my wish come true". Well, we put our hopes in our Greek Eurovision goddess serving up a festive up-tempo, and Santa delivered! And he didn't scrimp on the sleigh bells, either. Helena went from My Number One to 'My Christmas Number One' right here:
Blas Cantó - Será Navidad
"Si tú estás conmigo... Será navidad". An epic winter-warmer from your favourite Murcia musician. Blas Cantó's self-penned Será Navidad is a seasonal showcase of those almighty vocals we got to enjoy in Rotterdam. And all the holiday-season sparkle emanating from this song is even more luminous than that giant moon of his!
Saara Aalto - Every Christmas Day
"A melody makes it feel like you're not so far away". A melody co-written by Kylie Minogue, no less! Our festive Finn Saara Aalto adds an electropop edge to our Christmas playlist every year. Every Christmas Day should sound like this:
Francesco Gabbani - La Mia Versione Dei Ricordi
"Su una curva lungo il viaggio dei tuoi giorni... Capirai". To accompany a song about sentimental nostalgia, Francesco Gabbani takes us to the Alta Bada mountains in the north of Italy, to pay a shot by shot homage to Wham's iconic Last Christmas video. 10 out of 10. No notes.
The Mamas - A Christmas Night To Remember
"It's been a crazy year with ups and downs... And my feelings have been so unsure". The Mamas finished off their 2020 - the year they were set to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest - with *that* opening line on their Christmas single. And we felt it.
ISAAK - Silent Night
We've all heard this song, no doubt. But have we heard it performed by one of Malmö 2024's most memorable vocal powerhouses - Germany's ISAAK of Always On The Run fame? Well, we have now:
Michael Schulte - Being Home
"When the lights are shining... Take a break, calm down". We don't need to be told twice. Get those chestnuts roasting on that open fire. Peace out and happy holiday season to all!
