Chart success for semi-finalists!
19 May 2008 at 14:09 CESTThe Belgian participant Ishtar has been extremely successful in the Flemish charts over the last few months. After winning the Belgian national final for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, their song O Julissi went straightly to No.1 in the official singles charts and can still be found at No. 22 this week. Ishtar also released a new album three weeks ago with the same title which clims from No. 49 to No. 26 this week in the official Flemish Ultratop charts.
Slovenia's beauty Rebeka Dremelj is faring well in the Slovenian radio charts, too! The ex-Miss Slovenia - who missed out representing Slovenia in 2005 by just very few televotes - reached No.2 in the official RTVSLO radio charts some time ago with Vrag Naj Vzame and can still be found in the local Top 10.
Hold On Be Strong by Maria, the Norwegian entry in the first semi-final this year, has become the country's most successful Eurovision Song Contest song chart-wise for years! It went to No.1 in the official single and download charts, and is No.7 still in its 14th week! Maria released a new album two weeks ago which climbs from No. 10 to No. 7 in the official album charts compiled by newspaper VG.
Dustin The Turkey and his Irelande Douze Pointe, one of the more controversial songs this year, reached No. 5 in his native country and the provocative bird is still sitting at No.11 this week. Will he even cross over to other countries?
Finland and its affection for rock and metal songs have pushed their participants - the group Teräsbetoni to the No. 1 spot in the album charts with new new CD Myrskyntuoja - and it already sold gold! Equally successful is their song Missä Miehet Ratsastaa that also reached the top 3 of the official charts and is still very popular.
Dima Bilan, one of the most successful Russian artists during the last few years, is currently placed 15th in the most important radio chart in Russia, Tophit.ru! Interestingly enough, last year's Russian participants, Serebro, are at No.2 this week with their new song Opium whereas Verka Serduchka, the glamourous topstar from the Ukraine, is at No. 90 with Do-Re-Mi.
The Greek hopeful for this year's first semi-final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, Kalomira, dropped from the No.1 to No.2 this week in the official Greek singles charts, only giving in to Madonna! Secret Combination continues to be extremely popular with Greek teenagers though!
