Azerbaijan already started selecting what will be their representative on home soil at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku.
Three castings have been scheduled this week to reduce the number of contenders that want to participate in the national selection. They are required to perform at least two songs to showcase their voice and stage performance skills.
After this stage, a long selection process will follow until we reach the finalists that will compete in the live shows called Milli seçim turu on Ictimai TV, The Azerbaijani broadcaster. The winner will be decided by a combination of televoting and expert jury.
The jury of the castings consists of Eurovision commentators and presenters of Ictimai, musician Zehra Bedelbeyli and Azerbaijani singers Tunzale Agayeva and Natavan Sheykhova.
The selection process uses the same method that selected Eldar & Nigar, or as we know them better Ell/Nikki, in 2011.
Azerbaijan first entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 in Belgrade and placed inside the Top 8 in their four participations ultimately winning it this year in Düsseldorf with Running Scared.
