Bulgaria announce details of selection

31 January 2013 at 12:18 CET

Bulgarian National Television is to hold an internal selection to choose its artist for this year's Eurovision Song Contest by forming a committee including producers from BNT1's Programme Directorate.

The committee's choice of artist will be announced on the 10th of February 2013 and the artist will have the opportunity to submit up to five songs that comply with the contest's rules. The committee will listen to each of the songs and select three of them to go to the national selection.

The songs must comply with the rules of Eurovision Song Contest and additionally BNT has stipulated that they must be a "Bulgarian national product" meaning that the text, music, or adaptation must have been created by a Bulgarian national, or the artist should be a Bulgarian national.

National final on the 3rd of March

The three selected songs will be officially announced and shown live on the Nedelya x 3 program on the 17th of February 2013. Subsequent to this, videos of the songs will be broadcast repeatedly over a two week period on BNT and various radio stations. The songs will then be performed live in a broadcast on the 3rd of March 2013 where viewers and a special jury will be able to vote for their favourite.

Voting will be carried out by SMS and telephone. The jury that will be part of this selection process will be the same as the one voting in the Semi-Final and Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, made up of 5 people. The viewers and jury will each have 50% of the vote.

Bulgaria will be taking part in the second Semi-Final of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden on the 16th of May.
