The Blue Carpet: All you need to know about the 2018 opening ceremony

The Opening Ceremony of Eurovision Song Contest it’s always a key moment of the event and marks the official beginning of this year’s edition, on 6th May.

Portugal welcomes Eurovision Song Contest for the first time, and having the oceans as a central part of the graphic identity of the event and its concept, the traditional Red Carpet of the opening ceremony will be swapped this year by a spectacular Blue Carpet. In this Blue Carpet, located on MAAT, at riverside, the 43 participating countries make their debut, artists and delegations together, where they can meet press and fans before the beginning of the contest. Starting at 17h00, this ceremony will be broadcasted live by RTP1 and will have an amazing ensemble of hosts that are ready to make sure you don’t miss a bit of this event. The hosts of the Blue Carpet are Cláudia Semedo, Inês Lopes Gonçalves, Pedro Granger e Pedro Penim. Meet the Blue Carpet Hosts:  Cláudia Semedo is a Portuguese actress and TV host. Born in Lisbon in 1983, she completed her studies in theatre and has a degree in Journalism. After started working inthe radio, she made her debut in cinema in 2000, and the following year she acted in her first play in the national theatre. In 2002, started her career as TV host. She presented different shows such as culinary programmes, kids, science shows and contests. She also starred in several TV shows and soap operas. Radio host of RTP's Antena 3 morning show, Inês Lopes Gonçalves is also TV host of the weekly talk shows “Traz Pr'á Frente” on RTP Memória and “5 Para a Meia Noite” (as a co-host) on RTP. In 2017 she was part of the jury of Festival da Canção, which elected Salvador Sobral as the Portuguese entry for ESC 2017 in Kiev. In 2018, she was the Greenroom host of the 2 semifinals and final of Festival da Canção. Actor and TV host, Pedro Granger started his career in RTP in 1999. Since then, he also starred in theatre plays, cinema and television. He hosted several TV shows, including the Portuguese versions of “The Weakest Link” and “Idols”. A Eurovision fan all of his life, he presented the Portuguese national selection and was the Portuguese commentator for Eurovision Song Contest 2012. This is his eight participation in Eurovision Song Contest. Besides being one of the hosts for the Blue Carpet, Pedro Granger is also a creative consultor for the script and will be one of the Press Conference moderators. Pedro Penim is a theatre director, writer and actor. He was born in Lisbon and has been a Eurovision fan all of his life (to be completed).
