Belgium plans big selection for 2014

23 August 2013 at 00:38 CEST

In 2014 a new and exciting series of programming will be used to select Belgium's entry for Denmark, which according to VRT/Eén will allow "anyone whoever dreamed of performing on the biggest stage in Europe to give it a try". In addition, the broadcaster is calling out for candidates in a somewhat unusual way:

Candidates for Eurosong 2014, as the national selection is known, must send in a small clip where they perform their own version of a Eurovision Song Contest Song, for example a rock version of Waterloo, an acoustic rendition of Euphoria or an upbeat version of Hold Me Now... Everything is possible! They can choose from 58 years of Eurovision Song Contest history. They don’t have to enter the competition with an original song like used to be the case in the previous editions of Eurosong. Candidates can participate individually or as a group.

You can check out the trailer for Eurosong 2014 below, featuring none other than the wonderful Loreen, who won Europe's Favourite TV Show for Sweden in 2012!

Tom Dice, who came sixth for Belgium in Oslo in 2010 with Me And My Guitar has also recorded a promotional video. You can check it out below:

All the information about how to take part can be found on the website: www.een.be/eurosong

At the same time, VRT/Eén is on the look out for composers and songwriters wishing to enter their songs into the selection. These do not necessarily need to come from Belgium.

In 2014 it is the Flemish broadcaster, VRT, who is responsible for organising Belgium's entry. In 2012 Iris failed to make it to the final with the song Would You? This year in Malmö francophone broadcaster RTBF sent Roberto Bellarosa with the song Love Kills achieving a respectable 12th place in the Grand Final.

The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will take place on the 6th, 8th and 10th of May in either Copenhagen, Herning or Horsens in Denmark, where Belgium will perform in one of the Semi-Finals.
