Azerbaijani selection progresses

The Azerbaijani national selection, Milli Seçim Turu has been underway in 2012 host city Baku for the past two weeks, with the results of the second heat being announced on Friday. So far the following acts have won heats and one and two respectively:

  • Week 1: Vugar Muradov
  • Week 2: Rəvanə Əliyeva

The Azerbaijani national selection is a drawn out process consisting of heats then final shows where the acts who won the heats compete against each other to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest. This comprehensive and extensive selection process aims to tests each artist in a number of situations, especially in the heats stage. 

Each week during the heats, the artists perform every day with everything from Eurovision Song Contest songs to Azerbaijani songs and other international hits. 

Azerbaijan has had a very impressive track record in Europe's favourite TV show with the following results:

  • 2008: Elnur & Samir (8th Place)
  • 2009: Aysel & Arash (3rd Place)
  • 2010: Safura (5th Place)
  • 2011: Ell/Nikki (1st Place)
  • 2012: Sabina Babayeva (4th Place)

The country has never scored below 8th place. 

After hosting the Eurovision Song Contest this year in Baku, the winner of Milli Seçim Turu will have the honour of representing Azerbaijan at the 2013 contest in Malmö Sweden in one of the Semi-Finals on the 14th or 16th of May and if they qualify, will appear in the final on the 18th of May.
