Athena Manoukian releases official 'Chains On You' music video

Accompanied by a revamped version of 'Chains On You', the song with which she won Armenia's national selection 'Depi Evratesil', Athena Manoukian launches the official music video for her Eurovision 2020 entry.

Athena is very excited about the release: "I’m very happy to present my music video to everyone and I really hope that fans all around the world will love it! We had only 2 weeks after Depi Evratesil to revamp the song and shoot the music video, and after days and nights of rehearsals and preparations I’m very excited to share the result of our work. It is truly a joy working alongside such a professional team and believe me, we have a lot more surprises coming up!"

Chains On You was written by Athena and composed by her and DJ Paco, the revamp of the song was done by Armenian singer-songwriter Artem Valter.

Athena is set to perform in the 2nd half of the 2nd Semi-Final in Rotterdam on Thursday 14 May.

Armenia’s national selection show ‘Depi Evratesil’ came to an end tonight as Athena Manoukian was announced the representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. Athena will sing 'Chains On You' in Rotterdam this May.

Tonight, 12 artists competed for Armenia’s ticket to Rotterdam. The running order, determined by random draw, was:

  1. Agop – Butterflies
  2. Karina EVN - Why?
  3. Hayk Music - What Is To Be In Love
  4. ERNA - Life Faces
  5. Eva Rida - No Love
  6. Athena Manoukian - Chains On You (winner)
  7. Gabriel Jeeg - It’s Your Turn
  8. Sergey & Nikolay Harutyunov - Ha, Take a Step
  9. Miriam Baghdasaryan - Run Away
  10. Vladimir Arzumanyan - What’s Going On Mama
  11. Arthur Aleq - Heaven
  12. TOKIONINE - Save Me
Armenia's national selection 'Depi Evratesil 2020' ARMTV

Athena Manoukian has won the national selection with 168 points. The points were determined by equal parts international jury, AMPTV jury and public televote. ERNA came in 2nd with 120 points and Vladimir Arzumanyan in 3rd with 118 points. Athena received 60 of her votes from the international jury, 58 from the AMPTV jury and 50 from the public televote.

During the interval, viewers were treated to performances by 2016 Armenian delegate Iveta Mukuchyan and Junior Eurovision 2019 participant Karina Ignatyan.

Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Armenia made its debut in the Contest in 2006 with André’s Without Your Love. Armenia has reached the top 10 on 7 occasions to date, the best results being 2 4th-place finishes achieved by Sirusho in 2008 and Aram MP3 in 2014.

Last year, Srbuk represented Armenia in Tel Aviv with her song Walking Out. Srbuk came 16th in the second Semi-Final with 49 points, missing out on qualifying for the Grand Final.

Athena Manoukian will perform in the 2nd half of the 2nd Semi-Final in Rotterdam on Thursday 14 May.

As announced, Armenia will hold 'Depi Evratesil' again for 2020. Armenian broadcaster AMPTV has now announced the songs each competitor will sing and they are all available for streaming.

The winner of Depi Evratesil will get the chance to become Armenia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam. The 12 competing contestants and songs are:

  • Athena Manoukian - Chains On You
  • ERNA - Life Faces
  • EVA Rida - No Love
  • Gabriel Jeeg - It’s Your Turn
  • Hayk Music - What Is To Be In Love

  • Sergey & Nikolay Harutyunov - Ha, Take a Step
  • TOKIONINE - Save Me

Armenia will choose its Eurovision 2020 participant via the national selection format 'Depi Evratesil' again. Armenian broadcaster AMPTV received 53 valid applications that were reviewed by a professional jury, but the 12 best acts were picked to compete during the national final on 15 February. The winner will get the chance to become the country's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.

Depi Evratesil 2020 will take place at 19:00 CET on 15 February 2020 on Armenia's Channel One and www.1tv.am.

How did the jury select?

Whilst reviewing applications, the jury took into account the validness of the application, if the song was in line with the rules and the format of the contest, as well as the diversity of music genres. The jury members included Naira Gurjinyan, Anita Hakhverdyan, Lilia Nikoyan, Ruben Babayan, Vardan Hakobyan, Tigran Danielyan, David Tserunyan, Karen Tataryan and Anush Ter-Ghukasyan.
