Following the huge success of Amir, France’s representative in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, France 2 and France 4 have joined forces once again in 2017. The upcoming young talent Alma will fly the flag for France in Kyiv with her song Requiem which was written and composed by Nazim Khaled.

Alma is 28 years old and the eldest of three sisters. Alongside singing she also plays the piano and started writing songs whilst she was on her travels. After finishing a business degree, she decided to devote herself to her lifelong passion; music and so she moved to Paris to pursue her dream. It was in the French capital that she met songwriter Nazim, who has also written for Amir, who finished 6th for France in the Eurovision Song Contest last year. Nazim wrote most of the songs of Alma’s debut album which will be released on 5th May 2017.
“I’m deeply honoured to have been selected to represent my country, France, at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest”, said Alma. “I strongly hope to count on the public’s love and support to deliver the best performance possible”, she added.
Alma is an emerging star on digital platforms and has been named as one of the most promising young artists of 2017. Whilst she deals with universal themes including love and even death, Alma brings a very personal approach. The poetic and dreamlike Requiem tells of Alma’s quest for never-ending love and showcases her unique voice. Requiem is now available on all digital platforms and the final version that Alma will perform in Kyiv will be released in the coming weeks. Check out a sneak preview of her entry below:
Alma will give an exclusive first interview on the music TV programme Alcaline tonight at 20:40 CET on France 2 where an excerpt of her state-of-the-art video will be premiered. Tomorrow she will present an award at the French Music Awards, Victoires de la Musique.
France 4 will broadcast the Semi-Finals of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday 9th May and Thursday 11th May, which will be broadcast live from Kyiv, Ukraine. Alma will represent France in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday 13th May and will also perform her entry, Requiem during the second semi-final on Thursday 11th May.
