06 August 2020 at 10:01 CEST
Agathon Iakovidis, who represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 together with Koza Mostra, passed away aged 65.

Agathon lakovidis was born in Evangelismos, in the Lagada province in 1955. He was devoted to rebetiko music, loyally serving it since 1973, refusing to sing any other – even more popular- styles. In 1977, lakovidis created the Rebetiko band of Thessaloniki and he released two records. In 1981 he moved to Athens, where he worked with famous Greek musicians.

In 1987 he married Erifili Hontolidou. Together they had a son, Nikos, who studies physics, plays the oud and sung together with Agathon in many concerts, radio and television shows.

Participating in Eurovision

In 2013, he spontaneously collaborated with Greek rock band Koza Mostra, founded by Ilias Kozas in 2011. Together, they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 where they finished 6th in the Grand Final with the song Alcohol Is Free.

Early in May 2020, Agathon collaborated with the Papageorgiou hospital in Thessaloniki and played rebetiko songs at the entrance, as a sign of gratitude for dealing with the pandemic.

We would like to use this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Agathon Iakovidis.
