The first acts announced for The Big Eurovision Welcome
24 April 2023 at 20:30 CESTThe first batch of artists that will be performing at The National Lottery's Big Eurovision Welcome have been announced. Our Host City's 90-minute outdoor spectacle will welcome a crowd of nearly 30,000 people, and the lineup they can expect to see is already looking unmissable.
Two Eurovision Song Contest winners will be amongst the performers. Conchita Wurst, who won the Contest for Austria in 2014, will be bringing her show-stopping vocals to the party. And 2016 Contest winner - Jamala for Ukraine - will be in attendance, as Liverpool commences its week of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of her country.
Representing Liverpool, meanwhile, will be some of the most successful groups that the region has ever produced: indie-pop darlings The Lightning Seeds, girlband greats Atomic Kitten and soul legends The Real Thing will all be in town, and are your best bet at experiencing the diverse range of music that our Host City has exported to the rest of the world.
The event will also see Liverpool lads Frankie Goes To Hollywood reunite for a special performance, after their enormous success in the '80s with songs like Relax and The Power Of Love, and their subsequent split in 1987.
In addition to all of that musical talent, we can also look forward to cameos and contributions from some well-known faces from the world of entertainment. TV favourite Shirley Ballas, Liverpool icon Ricky Tomlinson and Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne are among those appearing on the night.
The final wave of more than 9,000 tickets for The National Lottery’s Big Eurovision Welcome will be released on Tuesday 25 April at 13:00 CEST.
The last few thousand tickets to attend the show are free (with a £2 service fee per ticket) and will be available from bigeurovisionwelcome.co.uk on a first-come, first-served basis. Those booking tickets will be required to confirm they have a National Lottery ticket that they can present on the day of the event.
Also confirmed is that host AJ Odudu will be joined on presenting duties by comedian and TV personality Joel Dommett. Ahead of the event at St George's Hall on Sunday 7 May, Joel says:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting The National Lottery’s Big Eurovision Welcome alongside AJ Odudu! I’m a big Eurovision fan and getting to host this huge event in the heart of Liverpool will be so exciting. We’re going to put on an incredible show with amazing performances from Liverpool’s finest and more. Be sure to grab the last few tickets. We can’t wait to celebrate this historic event with all of you.”
