Romania launches marathon national selection for 2018


60 entries have been shortlisted for the Romanian national selection for Eurovision 2018.

In 2017 Romania scored its first top ten placing in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2010 and it seems that they're hungry for more success this year. Romanian broadcaster TVR has revealed that the national selection for 2018 will include five semi-finals which will take place in five different cities.

The Romanian national selection for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, Selecția Națională, will begin with the first semi-final on Sunday 21st January with the final set to take place on Sunday 25th February. In total 60 songs have been shortlisted for the competition. The schedule and songs are as follows:

Semi-final one: Focşani - 21st January

In each show the jury will selected three songs for the final. The jury members are: Marian Ionescu, Ilinca Băcilă (Romania's representative in 2017), Nicu Patoi, Liliana Ştefan and Viorel Gavrilă. In total 15 songs will be performed in the final and the winner will be decided solely by the public.

Familar faces

The Romanian national selection for Eurovision 2018 features some familiar faces. MIHAI (Mihai Trăistariu) has participated in the national final numerous times and will perform in the second semi-final. He represented Romania in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tornero which finished fourth in Athens.
Alex Florea will participate in the first semi-final. He represented Romania in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest alongside Ilinca Băcilă with the song Yodel It!
