Jessica Mauboy is one of Australia's most successful famous artists. While she is originally from Darwin, her mother has roots in two Indigenous tribes, the Wakaman and the KuKu Yalanji, who lived around the cape of Far North Queensland. Jessica's father is from Timor.
Jessica's musical journey began in 2006, when she captured the heart of the nation as a 16-year-old on Australian Idol, and since then she has released five top-10 albums, 15 top-twenty singles and four platinum selling albums. She turned 24 nominations into two ARIA Music Awards. Her songs have been streamed globally over 159 million times and her videos have been seen over 39 million times.
Jessica toured with Beyoncé, collaborated with Ricky Martin, Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg and Pitbull, performed for Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and made history being the first non-European solo artist to represent Australia as a guest performer at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014. Jessica said it was a dream to be the interval act in Copenhagen: "I wasn’t competing but it did give me a taste of how brilliant Eurovision was. I love the Eurovision Song Contest, and I have since I was a little girl."
Her song We Got Love was revealed on 8th March 2018 and tells the story of how music can lift the human spirit: "My hope is that this is a song about unity and a reminder that love, acceptance and the power of inclusivity can overcome all obstacles or hardships that arise. Especially in times like these where the world can be a very confusing and lonely place, it’s important to remember when we feel disarmed of empowerment that we still hold the greatest chance for change with love."
About the song writers and composers
David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii (DNA) have co-written and produced some of Australia’s most successful songs: Timomatic’s Set It Off & If Looks Could Kill, The Saturdays’ Not Giving Up & The Veronicas In My Blood.
DNA also secured the lead single Risk It from the new Jessica Mauboy TV-series The Secret Daughter, which was released early November 2016, co-written with Tania Doko and Jorgen Elofsson. It was on the soundtrack to the series which was #1 for three weeks on the ARIA Albums chart and has sold in excess of platinum sales.
They aren’t strangers to the Eurovision Song Contest as they've worked together with Isaiah, Australia's 2017 representative, co-composing and producing his entry Don’t Come Easy. DNA also co-wrote and produced his single It’s Gotta Be You, which reached a top-30 position nationally on the ARIA charts.
