Iveta Mukuchyan

Iveta Mukuchyan was one of the first artists chosen for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest - the internal decision by the Public Television Company of Armenia was announced in October last year. After that an open call for submissions was launched to find the best possible song for Stockholm, and in the end, LoveWave was chosen, with music written by Lilith Navasardyan and Levon Navasardyan, and lyrics by Iveta Mukuchyan herself and Stephanie Crutchfield.

Iveta Mukuchyan is a singer, songwriter, actress and fashion model. She was born in Armenia on 14 November, 1986. When she was five years old, her family moved to Germany where she was educated, she specialised as a linguist.

20 years later Iveta returned to Armenia for her musical education. She studied jazz-vocal at the Yerevan State Conservatory. It was there that she realised that music is her greatest passion.

Iveta took part in the Armenian version of Idol in 2010, where she gained huge popularity and thousands of fans. Later that year, during the Armenia award ceremony held in Moscow, Iveta was awarded the Discovery of the Year prize.

In 2012 Iveta took part in Germany’s version of the talent show The Voice, where she performed Loreen's Euphoria, the song that won the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. Four years later, she will be following Loreen's footsteps, entering the stage in Stockholm and representing Armenia with LoveWave.

Things to know about Iveta Mukuchyan

What are the three most interesting aspects about your entry?

  1. It's experimental and unique.
  2. It's based on pure and real emotions.
  3. It was a risky choice to put the so-called "Eurovision standards" aside and come up with something entirely different. But it was sure worth it.

What are the three most impressive facts about you?

  1. I started singing when I was three years old.
  2. I'm out of standards – they are neither enough nor interesting to me.
  3. In college I studied linguistics and was supposed to major in that field, but soon I realized that music was my one true passion and I moved back to Armenia to study in the State Conservatory.

Do you have a (lucky) routine before you go on stage?

I'm meditate with my crystals.

Why is the Eurovision Song Contest important for you?

I've been watching the Eurovision Song Contest since I was a kid and I always wanted to be a part of this big family. I dreamed of the day when I'll be standing on the big stage and doing what I love - singing. It's a great honour to be chosen to represent my country in my own way, through music and art.

Lyrics of LoveWave

LoveWave

Hey it’s me.
Look, I know it might sound strange but suddenly I’m not the same I used to be.
It’s like I’ve stepped out of space and time and come alive… Guess this is what it’s all about cause…

1. ...when it touched me the world went silent,
Calm before the storm reaches me.
The ground in motion set off all sirens,
You took over my heartbeat... beat... beat... beat...
It’s taking over me.

Chorus
You
Shook my life like an earthquake now I’m waking up,
You
Gave me faith now I can break every single wall,
You
Prove we can do it all when all is out of love,
You (oh like a lovewave)
Spread a lovewave ´n my heart goes ba-ba-da-bu-who-oh-oh.

2. Caught in a downward spiral,
I lost my soul in my dreams.
I would give up and lose all trials,
When one moment changed everything.

Without even a single warning,
I’m not who I was before.
A chain reaction with no returning,
Now watch me craving for more.

It’s taking over me.
Instrumental
It’s taking, it’s taking over me.

Chorus
You(oh like a lovewave)
Shook my life like an earthquake now I’m waking up,
