Freddie

Freddie became famous in his home country Hungary in 2014 after participating in the talent show Rising Star. In February this year, he won the Hungarian national final A Dal with his song Pioneer, with top marks from both the public and the professional jury. Despite his recent successes, he still is the same modest and humble man who only cares about singing his heart out to the audience. After the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, Freddie is going to work on his first album.

Freddie was born in Győr, Hungary, in 1990. His dedication to music appeared quite early, as he was translating lyrics, writing poems both in English and Hungarian, but basketball also played a leading role in his life. When he had to give up his promising sports career because of a serious injury, he turned to music for comfort and took up playing the guitar.

Freddie's musical breakthrough came in 2014 after his studies as hotel management specialist, as he took part in the Hungarian edition of Rising Star. Following the TV show, his first single Mary Joe was released and became a massive hit in no time. His single was the first Hungarian one since 2011 that managed to reach number one in the Top 40 for three weeks in a row. Freddie regularly performs concerts throughout Hungary, either with a live band or as a solo singer.

On 27 February, he won the Hungarian Eurovision national final series A Dal with his song Pioneer with huge support by the public and the professional jury alike. After the preparations for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, Freddie is going to work on his first album. He is actually the pioneer of his own life as well, as his dream is taking shape by making music. Even though he is getting more and more famous, he still is the same modest and humble man who only cares about singing his heart out to the audience. Things you should know about Freddie

What are the most interesting aspects about your entry?

My song is about our inner struggles we have to face day by day and the fact that all the answers lie deep inside of us. A true pioneer faces problems and takes full responsibility for his decisions. Personally, I love how the song unfolds to a massive peak and then comes to that intimate closing which actually feels like a sigh of release.

I do not think there is a high chance of other entries using any kind of whistle. I guess ours is quite a hook, at least it is in our home country and I hope it will work in front of an international audience as well. At least the international reactions have been quite positive so far on that.

What are the three most impressive facts about you?

Representing the country I was born in after spending just one year in our national music industry.
Last year my song Mary Joe was chosen the hit of the year.
A couple of months ago I was given the Hungarian InStyle Award in the category of "Young Talent”.

Do you have a (lucky) routine before you go on stage?

I always need a couple of minutes to calm myself down. Just a few minutes of tranquillity while I can sink to the bottom of my soul so that I can sing my heart out to the audience.

Why is the Eurovision Song Contest important for you?

I really cannot imagine any bigger honour than representing my home country. I am shivering in the best sense and I can hardly wait for getting on stage. I am very ambitious and motivated to learn from other countries, it is an excellent opportunity for me to improve. I am really looking forward to meeting you all!
