Christabelle was born in 1992 and has been performing on stage since the age of three. Following a brief stint on television in her teens – during which she hosted Teen Traffic and Teen Trouble (both nominated for a Malta Television Award) – Christabelle decided to focus on her music career, and participated in several song contests such as the Maltese selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and F.I.D.O.F. in Louisiana, USA.
For the past seven years, Christabelle has worked with American and British producers on a string of songs that included I Wanna Know, Flame, Naturally, Every Time I Bleed, Everything About You, Say, and Fall for You. Several of these songs have reached the number one spot in the local charts, and the singer has won eight Bay Music Awards, which are the highest accolade from the Maltese music industry.
On top of sharing the Isle of MTV 2017 stage with world-famous artists like The Chainsmokers, Christabelle has performed with, or opened for, many internationally-renowned singers, including Gigi D’Alessio and Laura Pausini. She has also placed in the Top 10 of the Maltese selection for the Eurovision Song Contest three times: eighth in 2014 with her song Lovetricity, second in 2015 with Rush, and fourth in 2016 with Kingdom.
Following a one-year break, Christabelle returned to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with Taboo, a personal song co-written by herself along with Johnny Sanchez, Muxu and Thomas G:Son, the latter of which wrote Loreen’s 2012, Eurovision-winning song, Euphoria. Winning both the televoting and the judge’s vote thanks to a stunning performance, the song has gone on to generate a national discussion in Malta on mental health.
The singer has been made an ambassador of the Maltese President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society for mental health. Her role within the Foundation is to continue to raise awareness about the reality of living with mental illness, while also supporting local charities that focus on mental health. As the singer has stated herself in various interviews, this is something that hits very close to home due to her suffering from poor mental health at certain stages in her life. This is not the first cause Christabelle has taken on, however. In fact, as a much-loved, local LGBTIQ+ ally, the singer has performed multiple times at Malta Pride. Her reasoning, as she has made clear over the years, is that no one should be discriminated against or persecuted for loving another human being.
