Basim
He is one of the few people that all of Denmark is on a first-name basis with. In 2008, at the age of just 15 years old Basim came fourth in the first season of X-Factor and since then has become a household name. Now he has the honour of representing Denmark on home turf at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with a song that he wrote himself.Anis Basim Moujahid (born 4 July 1992), better known as Basim, is a Danish singer and songwriter. He is of Moroccan origin, but lives in Copenhagen, Denmark.
After X Factor, he started a solo singing career in Denmark with two albums and one EP released: Alt det jeg ville have sagt in 2008 and Befri dig selv in 2009. Basim will represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 on home turf in Copenhagen with the song Cliche Love Song written by himself.
"Tunes often just come to you when you least expect it, and the melody to Cliche Love Song came out of the blue".
"The song is about a girl I meet and have a crush on. I try and do everything I can in order to get her to love me, but no matter what I do, it just feels like a cliché, and that is the theme of the song. But there is a twist to the song", explains Basim.
Europe will love Basim's love song
He describes Cliche Love Song as a pop song with a hint of soul and R&B. He is looking forward sharing it with the rest of Europe and is not taking part just for the sake of it.
"It is going to be fantastic to sing Cliche Love Song for the rest of Europe! I am going to have the entire country watching my back, and we just need to get the rest of Europe to think like us", he said.
