Italian broadcaster Rai has confirmed that Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo will return between Tuesday 1 and Sunday 5 February, 2022.
The long-running show produced 2021 winners Måneskin and will once again be used to inform the Italian choice of participant in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Director of Rai1, Stefano Coletta, explains their vision for 2022:
‘The musical journey undertaken two years ago by Amadeus [Sanremo’s artistic director] marked an important cultural change in the history of the Festival which led the winners of the last edition, to also win the Eurovision Song Contest and important international recognition for the Italian song.’
‘It is in this direction of innovation and one of the objectives of the Public Service, that Rai intends to continue to enhance the musical talent in an ever greater way through the most popular television event in the country’.
