In March 1990, Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to announce its independence. Lithuania joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, scoring nul points with its first-ever entry.
Following Lithuania's debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, the country withdrew from the competition and only returned in 1999. The singer Aistė represented the country with the song Strazdas which was sung in Samogitian, a dialect of the Lithuanian language.
Lithuania scored its best placing in 2006, sixth place, with We Are The Winners performed by LT United. The country has only made it to the top 10 in the Grand Final once since then, in 2016 with Donny Montell's I've Been Waiting For This Night.
Lithuania currently has the longest national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Eurovizijos dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka usually begins in January and in to March!
