That first outing resulted in the dreaded ‘nul points’ and Lithuania would sit the next four Contests out, returning in 1999 when songstress Aistė fared slightly better with her Samogitian-dialect number Strazdas (‘Blackbird’).
As of 2024, the most successful Lithuanian entry is LT United’s We Are The Winners, a tongue-in-cheek football terrace style chant that celebrated Lithuania’s ‘inevitable’ victory at the 2006 competition. It placed 6th.
After Estonia’s victory in 2001 and Latvia’s in 2002, Lithuania is the only Baltic nation yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest, though they have qualified from the Grand Final on more occasions than either of their neighbours.
