In 2004, Albania's first entry at Eurovision Song Contest, performed by Anjeza Shahini, finished 7th in the Grand Final. This remained the country's best result in the contest until 2012 when Rona Nishliu placed 5th.
The Albanian national broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) uses the long-standing Albanian song contest Festivali i Këngës to select the Albanian Eurovision Song Contest entry. Festivali i Këngës has been organised annually since 1962 and was first used for the 2004 Albanian Eurovision entry.
